One of the most important parts of a study abroad experience is finding a place to live. If you’re traveling abroad for school, you’ll definitely want to soak up all of the culture you can. Where you live plays a big part in your travel experience, since it decides how close you will be to your school and other cultural sites.
When you seek out apartments for rent, there are several different factors to take into consideration. First, think about the location of your school and the transportation methods of the host country. If you will have to walk or bike to your study abroad school, keep your apartment search close to the school. However, if there is a bus or train line that runs close to the college or school, you can expand your search and look for apartments along the train line.
Keep the other places you will need to go in mind as well. You may want to live close to a shopping or tourism area so you will have something to do in your free time. It’s also important to be close to places where you can buy food and other necessities.
As you ponder different apartment choices, find out about their lease requirements. There may be places that require you to sign a lease that is longer than the duration of your stay; consider looking at student apartments, which are meant for short-term stays. If you are unsure about what areas are safe and what apartments are conveniently located, ask your host school to put you in contact with a fellow student that can help you.
