Stretching Your Money to its Limits

When you want to live cheaply, you have an unbelievable number of options at your disposal. On the one hand, you can do things like research cheap places to live. For another, you can go to college online and save yourself a lot of money on meals, on-campus living and commuting. Of course, you can also combine these things and do very well.

When you want to stretch your money to its limits, you want to combine living in the cheapest part of the world you can stand with going to school online. While you won’t be living the posh life for only a few hundred dollars a month, you can live quite comfortably in a lot of places for a lot less than you would as a regular student at most universities. Needless to say, this is one secret most people aren’t very comfortable with because of the inertia of their lives.

You have to be a pretty intrepid individual to go forth and live in a far off place. You have to leave your family and friends behind, and take up a whole new lifestyle in a whole new place. This is not for the faint of heart, since you will have no one to back you up if you get into trouble in your new homeland. If you can cut it during this time, however, you can save a small fortune on your education and still live fairly well in the process. Getting your degree should be an adventure, after all.

Studying Abroad: Finding an Apartment – 2

When you choose to study abroad, it’s likely that you’ve already got a particular school in mind. However, not all schools have dorms for foreign students to stay in, especially colleges and universities. Depending on which country you’ll be studying in, renting an apartment can be very affordable so long as you’re careful about your selection.

Prioritize Your Needs

Ask yourself the following when looking at apartment listings for the town your school is in:

  • Is it close enough to get to school and back easily?
  • Is the neighborhood safe?
  • Can I afford the rent and utilities?
  • Is it in town or in a rural area?

Affordable rent and utilities and your safety should be the top priorities — yes, even above proximity to your school. You can always make a bit of a commute to get back and forth to school, but traveling by walking or by bicycle is only a good choice if you’re sure that it’s safe. Location also matters because town apartments tend to cost more, and rural ones tend to be more isolated. You may feel more comfortable paying a little more for rent so that your location is safer. If you are part of a college financial aid program, cost may not matter much.

Language Barriers

When studying abroad, you may not know much of the local language. It’s important to communicate well with your landlord, though, even if you have to have your translation book in your hands during your conversations. Making an effort to learn exactly what your new landlord wants shows that you want to follow the renting rules, and that makes you a welcome tennant.

Trip to Venice

Venice is the most romantic cities of the world and this is the reason why more of the young couple prefers to visit this place. Venice offers its visitors with numerous places to see and enjoy. After reaching there, we decided to hire a car so that we can visit all the places without anytime limit, then we came across a site called www.locationdevoiture.net, one of the best location voiture pas cher sites I have seen so far.

I found the site very interesting and reliable. The site was east to access and the prices were very low and reasonable when compare to other sites. This site provides its services through some of the best car hire agencies like SIXT, holiday autos, Thrifty and many more. The site is user friendly and any person with little bit if computer knowledge can easily access the site and gets the required information. They will offer you with best deals in the market. If you have any doubts, they will be clarified on the FAQ section, which is provided on the top of the page. Even you can book the car either by phone or through fax.

The car comes with some additional features like air conditioners, route maps, satellite navigators, newspapers, roof racks and baby seats as per the customer requirements, I am happy that I have used these services for my trip and made it more memorable.

Things to Learn While Studying Abroad in Europe

A study abroad program offers opportunities for international learning and collaborative learning that other venues, such as online learning, cannot hope to provide.  While study abroad programs are often touted for their ability to expand a student’s worldview, the small things that have a great impact on how students live while abroad are often overlooked.  Here, then, is a short list of things U.S. students rarely expect to learn – but always do – when studying abroad in Europe.

  • Learn to live with strangers. Many students decide to study or travel abroad in Europe on a budget, so they often book space in student hostels.  Hostels are often a major culture shock for Americans, who are used to having a great deal of personal space.  Fortunately, hostel living – no matter how exciting or frightening it may seem at the time – always provides a student with great stories to tell when he or she gets back to the states.
  • Figure out public transportation. Nearly every U.S. student learns to drive a car as a teenager.  However, unless a student is from a major metropolitan area that relies on public transportation, such as New York City, he or she may find the public transportation systems in Europe baffling at best.  There’s a special learning experience to be had in traveling among several European countries via Eurail, which seems to have different rules in each country – from pinpoint punctuality in Switzerland to laissez-faire “oh, sometime today” service in Italy to efficient but regularly on-strike – and therefore nonexistent – service in France.
  • Try “American” food in other countries. For better or worse, globalization means it’s now possible to eat McDonalds hamburgers in France and drink Starbucks coffee in Germany – and in many other European countries.  Often, study abroad students try these chains out of homesickness as much as curiosity, yet they’re never quite the same as they are in the United States.

Colorado Law Students Study Family Law in India

For Spring 2011, the University of Colorado Law School plans to send fifteen of its third-year law students to study abroad in India.  The students, who are all part of the law school’s family law clinic, will partner with students at the University of Bangalore, using collaborative learning to explore the differences between family law in the United States and family law in India, according to the law school.

The students’ studies will focus on four main areas of family law: family planning, the selling of children, domestic violence, and child abuse.  Each student will complete a research project on a topic related to one of these four areas of study, which will compare family law practice in India with the practice of family law in the United States.  For example, one student plans to study reproductive rights by visiting women’s health care clinics in the United States and India to learn how both countries address contraception and other family planning issues.

Students enrolled in the family law clinic at the University of Colorado hope that the international learning will take them beyond what online learning or mere travel and tourism could teach them, by giving them a first-hand look at how law is practiced in other countries.  One student indicated that she expects her experience in India to be similar to learning a foreign language.  Learning a foreign language taught her more about English, so she hopes that learning more about India’s family laws will make her a better practitioner of family law in the United States.

The family law clinic’s trip to India is paid for mostly by the University of Colorado Law School.  However, students have each contributed some money in order to pay for their transportation to India, as well as their lodging while they are abroad.

Things to Consider Before Committing to a Study Abroad Program

Studying abroad has many advantages. Exposure to a new culture can be eye opening. When you study abroad for six months to a year, you learn many things about the people, perspectives and the way of life in that country. Many people who study abroad return to their home countries with a renewed outlook. Getting out of your comfort zone to experience new things is often an enlightening experience. Carefully consider these questions when choosing a study abroad program.

The Goal of Studying Abroad

The idea of living in another country might be exciting. If it’s something you’ve never done before, you’ll want to ask yourself a series of questions that help you determine the right educational program, the most ideal country and the length of stay. When deciding on the program itself, what exactly is your goal? If you want to fulfill credits of a degree program back at home, be sure to select a qualified program.

Choosing an Ideal Location Abroad

You might also ask yourself which part of the world you are drawn to the most. It may be that you are naturally drawn to specific cultures. Or, it could be that going to a particular country will help you to learn a language that will help your career goals down the line. Think carefully about these factors ahead of time because they can eventually be influential in your career development.

Determining How Long to Stay Abroad

Deciding how long to study abroad can be one of the tougher questions to answer. If you’ve never lived outside of your home country, it may be difficult to know how you will feel on an extended stay in a new country. Still, you can ask yourself how comfortable you generally feel in new situations. Do you easily make friends? Are you able to persevere in difficult situations? Determine the length of your stay based on your answers to these questions.

Traveling Abroad to Learn a New Language

Learning a new language can be an enjoyable task, especially when you can study the language abroad. As the popular advice goes, the best way to learn a new language is to immerse yourself in it. If you want to learn a language and don’t know anyone near you who speaks it, why not spend several weeks abroad immersing yourself in the culture and language of another country?

Enrolling in a Language Program Abroad

The internet makes it very easy to find language classes in another country. Be sure to also read reviews on the various schools to make sure that you are choosing the best option. Also pay attention to your own learning style. Do you need one-on-one attention from a teacher? Or would you learn better in a more relaxed environment involving a group of learners?

Find Someone for Language Exchange

A fun and quick way to learn a new language is to travel to a country that speaks it and find a person who wants to do a language exchange with you. All this means is that you agree to spend a couple of hours a day together. You spend one hour speaking in the new language. You then switch off and speak English for the next hour. It doesn’t cost anything to hang out, walk around a new country and chat with a new friend.

Do Everyday Tasks

Another great way to learn a new language is to walk around in the new country running errands. Go into grocery stores and read the product labels. Talk to the man behind the meat counter to purchase the meat you will cook later that evening. Go to the bank and ask for coins so that you can do your laundry. Doing everyday tasks in a new country is a fast way to learn a new language.
